As human beings, our lives are constantly shifting. Our circumstances, relationships, perspectives and attitudes demand change in order for us to develop and expand. At times, these changes come of their own accord and may be overwhelming. At other times, we find ourselves stuck, lacking the skills or the confidence to make the change happen. Life coaching is transformational and offers a secure space for growth and progress to take place.
Coaching enables us to develop new tools and skills in order to move forward. It is a journey that will assist in generating insight and achieving goals. The process is defined by the outcomes that you want to achieve and so focuses on finding solutions and taking action. Each session is aimed at enabling you to move from where you are to where you want to be through useful and practical interaction.
Some coaching principles to keep in mind are:
-
Coaching is an equal partner relationship
-
You are the expert in your own life; no one knows you better than you do
-
-
Responsibility is shared
-
You and your coach are accountable for creating a valuable experience
-
-
Coaching is not prescriptive
-
You are not labelled or put in a box; your experience is yours
-
-
There is nothing ‘wrong’ with you
-
You are viewed as naturally creative, resourceful and whole
-
Imagine having someone in your corner whose only motivation is to help you succeed; someone who listens and empathises, but also challenges you and is honest in their reflections, without any personal agenda. A coach is someone who provides support in overcoming obstacles and limiting beliefs that restrain you, without judging you. Imagine the benefits you could receive from such a relationship. Then put your imagination to work and make change happen.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates (Way of the Peaceful Warrior)
